Diona Martyn Receives Service Excellence Superstar Award for April 2023

Curry Health Network is delighted to honor Diona Martyn, an MRI Tech Assistant, with the Service Excellence Superstar award for April 2023. Diona's exceptional dedication, vigilance, and commitment to patient safety have made a profound impact, leading to this well-deserved recognition. This marks Diona's second time receiving the award, following her previous recognition in May 2021.

In May 2021, Diona received the Service Excellence Superstar award for her outstanding efforts to assist the MRI department during a staffing shortage. Despite the challenges faced by the department, Diona's caring and thoughtful support ensured that patients received their scans in a timely manner. Her dedication and going the extra mile exemplified the organization's values and commitment to excellence.

Since then, Diona has continued to demonstrate her exceptional qualities, receiving monthly nominations for the Service Excellence Superstar award. This month, her outstanding actions caught the attention of Kimmy Oberg, a Patient Access Supervisor, who nominated her for the award.

Kimmy shared an incident that highlighted Diona's unwavering commitment to patient safety. Diona noticed a staff member wheeling a 99-year-old patient to her appointment in a wobbly wheelchair. Recognizing the potential danger, Diona promptly alerted Kimmy about the situation, leading to immediate action and ensuring the safety of the patient.

Following safety protocols, a work order was swiftly submitted, and the unsafe wheelchair was promptly taken out of service. Upon examination by a maintenance engineer, it was discovered that one of the supporting bars had snapped in half. Kimmy expressed her gratitude, emphasizing, "Without Diona letting us know, this could have resulted in a serious injury to a patient."

The Service Excellence Superstar award for April 2023 is a testament to Diona's outstanding commitment to patient safety, her exceptional work as an MRI Tech Assistant, and her continuous dedication to excellence.
